We'll be back

A few of you have asked where Pittsylvania Citizens site is - we'll basically we're still here, but because of Ross's Business and my job - we've taken a few weeks off.  We both have so much to do, that we are both pretty much exhausted and once I go to the Board meetings, that's only the beginning of what I have to do.  It takes a while to get the notes up and the videos.  The videos have to be cut and then uploaded....and it takes forever...

I think we will return to the meetings but probably not until November.  That's why I set up this site, so that interested people can sign in and voice their own opinion.

You want a controversial opinion - I'll give you one:  I hardly think any of this matters anymore....I think we are truly in the last days of civilization as we know it...I am a Christian, and it is in the Bible that no man knows the time or date of what is coming - even the Son doesn't know.  But we have been given clear signs of the end - and we are definitely in the last days.  With what is going on in the White House today - I am assured that we are about done.  I didn't vote for Obama, but I truly did want him to be successful.  I voted for McCain due to his military experience but truthfully I didn't like him either...I don't know if any of you are really keeping up with what is going on behind the scenes...let me tell you:  Obama is filling up his white house with his "Czars" and these people are all Socialist, Marxist, and generally evil people - and if you think this is something of a "coincidence" let me tell you, it's not.  There is a huge ring of curruption beginning in the Chicago area...and it has finally made it to the White House....and some of the Czars are just plain nuts - like the guy that's there that thinks that animals should be able to sue.  Yep.  Look into the true background and you will be horrified.  Obama is full of charm, and good speeches, but he is at the heart of something really bad - or good, depending on how you look at it.  Personally, I'm looking forward to the Rapture :-)

Upcoming County Comprehensive Plan Meetings

Please be aware that there are 5 upcoming public hearings about the County's Comprehensive Plan.  See below for dates.

The Commonwealth of Virginia requires that local jurisdictions prepare and adopt Comprehensive Plans.

Comprehensive Plans are blueprints to guide future decisions made by the Board of Supervisors and are intended to be a mechanism to deal with how the county should change and grow in the future.

Some of the aspects of the plan are public schools, natural resources, cultural resources, transportation, economic development, fire and rescue, recycling, recreational areas and agriculture.

If you are interested or concerned about any of these issues in Pittsylvania County, please attend one or more of these meetings and allow your voice to be heard.

The Comprehensive Planning process is only successful with FULL public participation!

Random thoughts

Fred Ingram and Coy Harville have both said that they are not planning on running again; that more than likely means that Tim Barber won't run again either. Smart. They know that the **** is going to hit the fan about that time, and they don't want to be in the crossfires. The voting citizens of Pittsylvania County voted for the bonds to pay for the new high school renovations - for better or for worse we have to pay that money back. This board has managed to push raising taxes back until a couple of years from now - and then - taxes will almost double.

Knowing this would happen, the Board should have raised taxes a penny or two at a time, so that it was eased into everyone's budget. And more importantly, we needed a board with vision - and members that were less worried about re-election than about growth in the county. Our county needs a means of revenue other than the citizens.

One of the ways to get this is to increase commerce. Sunday Beer and Wine sales would allow more shopping alternatives, and allow for chain restaurants to build in the county. Looking into age-appropriate tourism attractions is something interesting as well. Look at the "slopes" at Liberty U in Lynchburg....this county is prime for an attraction that would bring in young people to have fun...

Of course, that's a job - a real job - to find the right business, and lure them here. It would take some dedication and some networking - and some "fire in the belly" to get it done....but I think it's possible. There are possible alternatives for our county - but if we don't get crackin' - the outlook is beginning to be dismal.

Welcome to the Voice of the Citizens

Ross Johnson and I began the "pittsylvaniablog" as a way to let citizens' know what happens at the Board Meetings. Lately, we have seen much discussion, which is a great thing....but the discussions were "hidden" in the comments of the blog....I would like to be able to see all citizens be able to leave their thoughts, ideas, and opinions on the main page of the blog, so that we can all actively participate! I hope you will take advantage! The sign-in information is on the side bar. Thank you for participating!  This is Debbie Sparks signing off.
